Fire Safety

Most fires are preventable.

The Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005 requires that all non-domestic premises have a fire risk assessment. Failure to comply with the legislation can result in a fine of up to £5,000 or imprisonment of the responsible person – this would be the owner or manager of the premises.

Hillcrest Safety Consultants will help you through the whole process to enable you to become legally fire safety compliant within your organisation.

Our fire risk assessments follow the methodology outlined in PAS 79. This document is recognised as the recommended national industry standard.

Fire Risk Assessments

The process followed when assessing fire risks at a premises or on construction sites all include the same basic principles. The process is as follows:

  • Identify the fire hazards and who is at risk
  • Evaluate the risk of a fire starting
  • Examine existing fire protection measures
  • Recommend equipment and ways to reduce or remove the risks
  • Record the findings in writing

Our fire safety consultants are fully trained and experienced in fire safety and can conduct fire risk assessments and highly detailed reports for your organisation.

Fire Safety Management

It’s important to appoint someone with the relevant training and experience to manage your fire safety plans and procedures. They will be responsible for maintaining fire safety standards in accordance with statutory and regulatory requirements.

Businesses can be visited by a Fire Safety Officer at any time and have an Improvement Order placed on them. Do you know who your responsible person is and what their duties are? Are any of your team fire safety trained? Do you have a fire alarm and test it regularly? Do you have nominated Fire Wardens at your premises and if not, do you need them? If these are questions you don’t have the answer to, you are probably not compliant.

Our fire safety experts can save you the hassle and manage your fire safety requirements and obligations for you.

Fire Safety Advice

Fire safety is not something a business owner or premises manager would want to get wrong. Having the wrong or inadequate equipment on your premises can put lives at risk.

For example, fire doors should be an essential part of your fire safety precautions but these are often overlooked, despite being able to contain the spread of fire within the building. A fire door could fail, due to poor maintenance or it may not even be fit for purpose. We’ve witnessed many mistakes that have been made such as unsuitable materials or fittings being used and gaps from substandard door fitting.

Our team of consultants are experienced in delivering reliable fire safety advice and guidance to a whole range of businesses and organisations.

Fire Safety Improvement Plans

In the event of a fire in the workplace, your workforce needs to know how to deal with the situation as safely as possible, whether that means exiting the building immediately or successfully containing the fire until help arrives or an alternative exit can be made.

We can help you:

  • Develop fire safety improvement plans and procedures
  • Create emergency fire plans and strategies for the premises
  • Set out and monitor fire safety programmes and closed-off actions plans
